Thank you for all the work put into catalogue the Macallan Churchyard. I am following my mothers’ line of ‘Moir’ and ‘Mcconachie’ families that farmed the Haugh of Elchies across the river from Aberlour. We think that in this one graveyard we should be able to follow the line to Willam McKonachie who died in 1687. My great grandfather was John Moir (stone 1) who was drowned in 1898 in the Spey Ferryboat Accident. I would be very keen to hear from anybody following this same line. It is amazing that this information is now so accessible. Thanks again for all the groups hard work.

I would be delighted of finding any descendants of William Robertson-Grant & his wife, Jennie Hillhouse Kirkland, my g grandparents.

Webmaster comments   I think from Jane's posts on other sites, William and Jennie were originally from Dalnain Bridge, Grantown-on Spey, and subsequently went to Argentina.

Great website! Am looking for more info regarding John and Margaret Innes (nee MacDonald) buried Glenrinnes possible 1902 and 1904. How do I access photos of graves or are they available? I tried to order the publication but could not find it. Thank you.

I would love to join your group.
I am a 3rd year student at Moray College studying environment and heritage. One of the modules this year is a third year project and I have elected to look at the environmental effects on gravestones. From knowledge gained I know that there used to be slate grave stones and have been told of stone called by my lecturer "freestone". I would be grateful if you can inform me what materials were used in the manufacture of headstones and what if possible the advantages and disadvantages of each. Also how far into the material does the lettering get stamped.
Thank you in advance

Looking into the line of James Duncan and Jean Johnson both estimated b. 1788 who had son John Gregor Duncan registered in Hopeman in 1815 though he gives Burghead in census returns, had sister Margaret b. 1817 and probably a few other siblings.
John died in Fife and he was a mason who was responsible for building of some lightehouses according to family gossip.

I am looking to find ancestors of Macleans' in Elgin, and some of them moved to Glasgow and am also looking for people with the name of Glass and Nicol. I know that I have two relatives Hector and Mary Maclean Shoemaker who are buried in the South Cemetery in Elgin.

Does anyone hold any info on cemeteries or photo's as I live so far away.

The MBGRG Team
Many thanks to all our web site visitors and those who contributed to our Guestbook during 2008. Your support and encouragement is greatly appreciated by all at MBGRG.
We hope 2009 will be an equally satisfying and productive year for the Group, and our supporters.
Early in the new year we will be including MI's and buried tombstone data from Dundurcas and Macallan churchyards in the on-line MI/Photo Indices database.
Later in 2009, we will be publishing the results of the Group's extensive research carried out at Elgin Cathedral and burial ground - a labour of love by all Members who worked so hard on this very difficult project.
We wish you all a Happy Festive Season and hope you will continue to visit our site next year.

I have really enjoyed looking around your website - I have been researching my family tree on my mothers side "Winchester" and I think I may have an ancestor who is recorded in one of your Newsletters (Issue 9). I have downloaded the locations of both Birnie & Spyne Cemetries and will be there soon to look for more relations of the past! A very useful website!

Webmaster comments   Assume this is the fascinating Winchester stone (241) with phonetic spelling at Birnie. If indeed one of your ancestors, we'd love to hear from you further. Thanks for your kind remarks and good luck with your research
